What about all of the Rain? A well known secret on Whidbey Island is that we are in the Olympic Mountain rain shadow. The Olympic Mountains absorb and diverts a lot of precipitation that might fall on us.
The average annual rainfall in inches:
North & Central Whidbey Island: 17.7
South Whidbey: 20.7
Seattle: 38.3
Portland OR: 37.2
San Francisco: 21.5
Los Angeles: 12.5
Upstate NY: 39.2
NY City: 45.4
Atlanta: 51.0
Phoenix: 7.8
Miami: 56.0
Rainfall is low on the Island, cloud cover is moderate and less than Seattle, the air is the cleanest in the world, the winds are light (with the exception of a few wind storms each winter), summers have low humidity but the winter's humidity is high, and with the exception of the west cost of the Island, we have little fog.
